WORDFUL WEDNESDAY (and it's still Tuesday)

This is what happens when you get carried away while pirouetting....Elliot immediately started to pirouette after she discovered she was wearing her beautiful new tutu. She was spinning and spinning and spinning and when she went to take a bow, her bum was facing the crowd; and they were applauding wildly (it was her mama and her sisters, so what would you expect). As you can see from the photo, her hands are still in pirouette position. I do wonder how one 2 year old learns to pirouette and do it so precisely! Maybe if you put on a beautiful new tutu, the pirouetting sort of takes over your body. I've always wanted a tutu, maybe I'll get myself one and see if it has the same effect. I bet NPayne would enjoy watching me pirouette especially if it involved a tutu.

DID YOU VOTE?

I don't know why, but elections always make me nervous. I am confident in who I voted for, but I can't stand the anticipation.....the waiting.....and waiting.....and waiting to see who wins. It's sort of weird, because I am not a competitive person by nature; but I really want my candidate to win! This election makes me more nervous than I have ever been in prior elections...maybe that's because I know more about the candidates or maybe because there's a lot at stake here(as always). I don't know....really I don't. I do know that I am going to do exactly what my pastor said he was going to do.....vote for the candidate that I want to win, hope that candidate wins, then I'll pray for guidance for the winning candidate. I don't believe in name calling or character bashing, so I won't do that; instead I will pray for our new President whether it be whom I voted for or not.
During election times, I wish the world was like God intended it to be (according to William P. Young's The Shack); and we didn't need a President to lead our country. We just needed God Almighty to lead us, because we all leaned on Him, were in relationship with Him, and made good choices. Actually I wish our world was the way God intended it to be every day, not just election day; and we could all live in peace together.

PROJECT #1

Project # 1 is about to be underway. We live an old house, 100 years old to be exact, and I LOVE this house. I brought all my babies home to this house, and the day we don't come home to this house will definitely be one of the saddest in my life!
Although I LOVE this house, it is definitely a work in progress and probably always will be (which is secretly one of the reasons I love it.....shhhh, don't tell NPayne). There has been a lot done here, and there is a lot to be done here. Most of what is left is purely cosmetic, which gets me giddy to think about, because I LOVE to decorate, etc. I don't like to go buy all "new" stuff, but I like to get "old" stuff and refurbish it in my own style to use in my home. Many, of the projects I'm in charge of, are cosmetic. NPayne is in charge of the construction type projects...the next big one will be our kitchen. We have a vision for our kitchen (or at least I have a vision that NPayne happens to agree with), but we haven't had a chance to get started....hmmmm, I wonder why? Could it be the soccer games, music lessons, campouts, retreats, and busyness of our lives? Yes I think that's it. Our weekends are about to slow down for a very short time frame, and we will start on something around our house....what? you will have to wait and see.
For now, I will share a small project that I am almost finished with...see my next post!

Little Project

We redid Addi Jo's bedroom... last spring for her bday...in a mix of vintage, floral, Paris type style. One of the things that I have decided to display in her room are pictures of her grandmothers. She adores both of her grandmothers, and she asked to have their pictures in her room. She loves the "old" (I mean that in the nicest possible way) pictures of her grandmothers wearing their prom dresses, so that's what she's getting. I am also going to put a picture of Addi, hanging by her grandmothers' pictures. To make this project, I did the following:
1. Blow up the picture, mine are black and white, to the size you need. Use a copier or printer!
2. Choose your background paper!
3. Cut your paper to fit your canvas and decopage it onto the canvas!
4. Cut your picture in whatever shape you desire, mine are oval!
5. Decopage the picture onto the background paper (which is already on the canvas)!
6. You can add embellishments, trim or anything else you would like to. I may add some flowers too.
7. All I have left is to find something cool to hang it with. I think I will probably use blue ribbon, but I may use pink or purple.
When they are complete and hanging in her room, I'll post a picture.
Oh and by the way, can you guess which grandmother is NPayne's mom and which one is my mom?

NOT ME MONDAY!!!

Welcome to another episode of NOT ME MONDAY!!!!!

1. Today I absolutely did not snuggle up with B-Nut and take a little catnap while Elli slept in the nursery.
2. I did not eat my weight in hotdogs over this past weekend at all the parties and carnivals we attended.
3. I wouldn't dare have eaten all the Reese cups out of the Halloween candy....not me....I don't know where they went.
4. I didn't sell the rest of our Halloween candy to the local dentist office for $1/pound....not me!
5. This weekend I did not enjoy a nice cool hayride with my family and friends under the beautiful sky filled with stars.....not me!
6. I did not switch my 3 remaining car seats around (in the car) to give the kids a change of scenery and long for an infant seat to be in the mix....not one bit!
7. I absolutely didn't cry when I read an e-mailed comment, from a friend, about my post on Envy....I wouldn't dare do that!
8. I did not experience one of the most glorious child's birthday parties yesterday afternoon....not me! (It wasn't even one of my kids' parties).
9. I am not one bit tempted to let my big Australian Shepherd out of the backyard to chase away the little dog that keeps on getting into our trash....not me, not one bit!
10. On Halloween, I didn't dare let my children stay up handing out candy until 9:30.
11. I didn't sleep every single minute of the extra hour we gained from Daylight Savings Time...not I!
12. I did not put some of my children to bed at 6:30 last night...I wouldn't do that...and they didn't fall instantly asleep.
That's it for NOT ME MONDAY!!!! Come back next Monday for another episode.

MORE PET PEEVES

Obviously from my last post, the lack of respect given to Thanksgiving!
Folks who let their pets expel in your yard and don't offer to clean it up!
Folks who let their pets tear up your trash, while they watch, and don't offer to clean it up!
(yes I'm talking about someone specific who lives a few doors down...you know who you are)

Thanksgiving Anyone?

Going from Halloween directly to Christmas....what's that all about?
I walked into a local craft store yesterday and much to my dismay, I saw a ton of Halloween stuff on sale and a ton of Christmas stuff on display. There was one very small, I mean tiny, table of Thanksgiving decorations (if you could call it that). There have even been years, in the past, where I have heard Christmas music played on the local radio stations before Thanksgiving has even come and gone. Work with me here....it's not time for Christmat YET! Slow down! Whoa Nelly! Don't rush the madness on me any faster than is absolutely necessary! Who decided that we should skip from Halloween directly to Christmas? Halloween is fun, and Christmas...it's celebrating the birth of Christ; so obviously it's important. But what aboutThanksgiving? Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful, grateful, and appreciative for our country, our freedom, our family, our friends. I think that is a big deal and extremely important. The Payne Train LOVES Thanksgiving, it's actually one of my favorite days of the year. It's not just because we get to eat A LOT of good food and watch A LOT of good football (that does make it nice and all), but it's because we get to enjoy our family and oftentimes our friends...it's because we get to express our thanks to our LORD ALMIGHTY, out loud in front of others and hear them express their thanks as well...it's because we were blessed by being able to call ourselves Americans....it's because we have freedoms that so many others don't....it's because we live in the land of the free and the home of the brave....it's because we get to give praise to its rightful owner without expecting anything in return....it's because those things are important (the food and football is just a bonus).
This is definitely one of my pet peeves! I boycot all Christmas music until November. 28th!

SPOOKARAMA aka Fall Fellowship

One of my lifelong friends, Leslie, along with her sweet husband Jeff and their adorable daughter BLP throw a huge party every Halloween. We celebrated yesterday which was actually after Halloween.
It originated, with the idea, that it was one big party for all of Leslie's friends' children; since she can't get to all of their birthdays (she lives 1 1/2 hours from the rest of us). So this party is a whopper of an event and a true celebration for children (of course adults enjoy it too).
When Leslie and Jeff first started hosting this party, it was called SPOOKARAMA; and it was exactly that....spooky. They didn't have their sweet little girl when SPOOKARAMA began, so they made it as spooky as it could be.
The first year we attended, we had 3 of our 5 children; and Drewby was about 8 months old. We had a blast until it started to get dark, then it got a little too spooky for our young uns liking; we even had some tears from Addi (who was 4 at the time). Each year we traveled back to SPOOKARAMA ( remember they live about 1 1/2 hours from us) for a day of fun, fellowship and FEAR!
Then perspective started to change....Leslie and Jeff became parents to BLP. Once BLP entered their lives, they decided that SPOOKARAMA shouldn't be quite so spooky. Each year, it has become less and less spooky; but it is still just as fun. This year they decided to officially change the name from SPOOKARAMA to FALL FELLOWSHIP! I love the idea of that....FALL FELLOWSHIP. That is what it has become for Leslie and Jeff. I look forward to going each year, because I get to see Leslie, Jeff and BLP; and there are usually a few of my other lifelong friends (along with their families) there as well. Our kids get to play together (which doesn't happen too often). We all eat together, play games, go on a fabulous (and a tad bit spooky) hayride, whack a pinata and end with a bonfire. It's a wonderful time to be together with our own family and our dear friends. As for the name change....I still like calling it SPOOKARAMA, and I don't know if I'll convince my family to start calling it anything else; but we know that's about the fellowship and not the spookin' (well maybe a little spookin').

**Note: Leslie, Jeff and BLP live on a private lake. The first time we went to SPOOKARAMA, they were clearing out some land; so there was a tractor on their property. Cal, who doesn't usually care for parties and doesn't like crowds, instantly migrated to that tractor and sat on it all day long. Every year since that year (2001), Jeff gets that tractor out especially for Cal. And each year, Cal gets out of our car and instantly migrates to that tractor. This year, he sat on it a lot... but he also bowled for gourds, climbed on some hay in the hay maze, rode on the hayride and gave Leslie a big hug. I know Leslie and Jeff get as much joy out of seeing Cal's progress as we do. Thanks guys for always making SPOOKARAMA special for Cal too.**
